Our nation honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. each year on the third Monday of January. In Northern Illinois, people of many and diverse faith communities come together for prayer and table fellowship inspired by the vision of Dr. King. This year’s theme, “Staying Awake”, inspired by Dr. King’s homily on “Sleeping Through a Revolution”, will be delivered by Larry Greenfield, Executive Director of the Parliament of World Religions and Executive Minister of the American Baptist Churches.
Local faith leaders will be joined by children and musicians from many traditions who will contribute to the program. It will include the reading of the winning student’s essay on: “Awake: How do you wish to see the world in twenty years? Remember you are an active participant in these changes.”
FaithBridge is an interfaith consortium in the northwestern collar counties of Chicagoland. Board members include Fazal Khan and Suzanne Martinez (co-chairs), Hadis Fetic, Judy Engebretson, Maralee Gordon, Mike Chakoian, Anne Muelleman, Paul Kalmes, Vimala Bhikkuni, Teri Peterson and Mohammed Quraishi.
Tickets ($20 for adults and $10 for youth and students) may be obtained in many area faith communities and from any FaithBridge Board member. Advanced purchase is highly recommended.
