Based on the initiative of Prime Minister of India, the United National General Assembly (UNGA) had adopted an India-led Resolution on December 11, 2014 declaring June 21 as the “International Day of Yoga”. The First International Day of Yoga was celebrated enthusiastically on 21st June, 2015 all over the world. The Consulate General of India had also organized major activities to mark he First International Day in Chicagolandwith whole-hearted participation from the Indian-American Diaspora and several local dignitaries.
To keep this enthusiasm going and make Yoga an integral part of our lives & inspire others as well, the Consulate General of India will celebrate the 2nd International Day of Yoga on Saturday, 25th June, 2016 from10:00 AM to 04:30 PM at Timber Creek Inn, 3300 Drew Ave, Sandwich, Illinois.
The event is being organized in partnership with the city of Sandwich and with the active collaboration of over a dozen leading Socio-cultural, Spiritual and Community organizations based in Chicagoland including the Art of Living Foundation, Gayathri Gyan Mandir, Isha Foundation, Patanjali Yogpeeth, Brahma Kumaris Meditation Centers, SEWA International, Eye on India, Science of Spirituality, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha,Yog Sadhan Ashram, Sahaj Yoga Ashram, Temple of Harmony, Swami Sahajananda, Balaji Temple, American Association of Retired Asians (AARA) and Metropolitan American Federation of Seniors [MAFS].
The activities that are planned include a grand inaugural ceremony, practical demonstration of common yoga asanas, mass meditation and Yoga, presentation of breathing techniques, book and photo exhibitions on yoga, screening of documentaries on yoga, presentation of vegetarian food, and useful lectures on spirituality, healthy living and other aspects.
